Two of my leaders offered to run a Hallowe'en party next Sun in our
Hall. One has since fallen ill and the other has just got a new job,
and my contingency plan of leader 3 has fallen through. The event was
advertised to kids before half term -which is now on, so the show must
go on.

I'm now trying to put together the ultimate fallback- although people
have said "don't worry, we'll do it" I'm assuming the worst.
The event is fancy dress, 4-6 pm for all sections

So far my lame brain comes up with apple bobbing, mummy making (loo
roll wrapped round kid), a trail around our field across the adjacent
golf course to the churchyard gate. I've sort of an idea of getting
balloons and putting leaders faces on them (photos) and hanging them
up for kids to burst with pins on the end of canes (this needs careful
thought and RA!) and also some standard party games.

HOWEVER there's not a lot of "All hallows eve" about it.
Anyone got any suggestions I can plagiarise, please?

TIA!

The "BOX OF DOOM" ie a "feely box" in the dark, grapes for eyes, cold
porridge for brains etc....

The "LIGHT OF DEATH" sheet stretched across corridor/doorway, reaching
up 3-4 feet leader hidden behind with torch.

YP approachs on their own ( the rest are kept out of sight) and after a
good build up are told to follow the "LIGHT OF DEATH" with their face,
light goes up and down and round and eventually to light leads theri
face to the top of the sheet. face comes over sheet, meets cold sponge.
Scream!

Encourage YP to scream loudly to set up the next visitor

Thanks- got enough for a 4 hour party now.

And, of course, the ill leader has re-emerged, and leader 3 has also
come up with a plan.
So we can really choose the best of all this. I REALLY like the wet
sponge scare idea....

That's not a "wet sponge scare idea" it's the LIGHT OF DEAATHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Play it right and it goes down in your Groups legends

How did it go?

I'm a natural pessimist. At 4 pm , we had 5 kids plus those running
the event. However, by 4:20 we had 60 people in all, so I had to shoot
out to find more food.
The event was wholly chaotic; games for 10 need a lot of revision when
35 kids between abt 4 and 15 want to play. So the plans went out the
window- the (drum roll!) Light of Death (clap of thunder) didn't
happen, and in fact much of the evenings games went by the board.
We bobbed for apples, we ate doughnuts in sticky goo on strings, we
dived into jelly looking for sweets. We played "duck duck goose"
musical games, we judged the Fancy Dress (parents were really
professional looking) and we had a ghostly treasure hunt.
So: outcome. Lots of happy kids; the desired result of beavers knowing
cubs, cubs knowing scouts was achieved. Parents chatted to us and one
another.
Debriefing showed that next year we'll go for 3 hours instead of 2,
and we'll get into our Hall earlier (by warning the prior users -dog
training in our field- that we'll be in earlier). We'll make sure we
have a timed programme (which we won't stick to)
And we'll definitely do it again, this time with (drum roll!) Light of
Death (clap of thunder) .

Thanks all for advice and help
