Where did you get your group Chairbeing from, please? We need one,
and have thinking caps on, but I like to find out what others do, or
did!

Thanks

Most of those at my old Group were interested parents, most were very good
and some not so. The last one during my tenure as GSL was the former SL who
had retired (just before the age restriction was lifted). In any case his
wife said he was to stop doing so much Scouting and he wouldn't have been
allowed to continue as Scout Leader after the age of 65.

Just goes to show how we get the wrong impression about some roles in
Scouting - he's now DC! So much for not being allowed to continue.

Bill,

Please do try to use English!
I *think* you're asking how Groups persuaded someone to be their
Executive Committee Chairman.
Even if it's a woman, they're still a Chairman (in much the same
way that a local authority's First Citizen is their Mayor,
regardless of gender - and the Mayor's spouse is a Mayoress, even
if they're a man).

Anyway, to answer the question I think you've asked, my Group
Chairman is the mother of two of our former Scout members. A keen
parent, who volunteered for the Committee, and in later years,
after her sons had left the Group, she was asked to take the
appointment.

Glad I gave you the chance to get that rant off your chest.
Mine was an attempt at what we in Essex call "humour" (or at least
"wit"), having a pop at those gender politicians who reject gender-
specific nomenclature. Our Council has a Chair; not a Chairman. And I
have several in my dining room; however they are only chairs, I
suppose
Please do feel free to use English in whatever way you want- but the
concept of a male Mayoress makes me fall about the floor.

I stand corrected. It seems that the modern form of address for
the male companion of a Mayor is "Consort".

I recall that my University Athletics Club had a President, and another
official of the opposite gender. The constitution was worded in such a way
that, when the first female President was elected, her male counterpart
revelled in the role of "Ladies' Captain".

We've always found a keen parent, usually one who's been helping out on the
Exec Committee for a year or two. When we've got it right, they've stayed
around for a number of years after their own children have passed through
the Group.

At the moment we are between Chairmen, as they say, and are having to
look for other options.

thanks, all

so far no-one fits TSAs ideals of a business person who's not involved
with scouting (I'm pleased to say!)

Good!
We won't either
