Without knowing if this is going to get out :-( .
Is anyone else experiencing news collection problems?
Has UKRS simply gone dead in the water, or is this the Highwinds news
server problem that seems to be affecting Turnpike users with both Demon
and Virgin?

Yup, I think that UKRS has become a bit like the Norwegian Blue.

Indeed.
If even I, Luddite and user of the quill pen, feel the need to get on
to escouts, uk r s has fallen off its perch. Apart from the nail, of
course.

I guess in the end there's only really the scope for one "forum" - and
with USENET becoming increasingly obscure I guess it won't be that...

Yes, it did. The problem seemed to be with the news server hosted by
Highwinds that is used by Virgin and a few others I gather. I assume the
problem was only with users of Turnpike - and there was a fix. But it
seems to be back to (what passes for ) normal now.
I have poked my nose into escouts once or twice, and even spotted one or
two UKRS 'expats', but .... (I must be getting old ;^)
