Hi chaps and chapesses,

I will be soon upgrading to Windows 7 so won't have Outlook Express
available any more. Does anyone know of a good, user friendly and free
newsreader I could use please? Those I've tried so far (I can't remember
what though - its an age thing) weren't very good at all.

Thanks in anticipation.

I'm using the newsreader in Windows Live Mail, which comes with Windows 7.

Also used the newsreader in Thunderbird.

Funny this thread should be here ... it's been a while since a posted,
mainly because I also upgraded to Windows7/Office2010 and couldn't find the
OE newsreader anymore! I installed a freeware reader yesterday but having
read this thread Live Mail is now installed :o)

Shame it still doesn't seem to do coloured threading - I wonder if
OEQuoteFix (which I used to use with OE) will still work?

Also, anyone know how to get it to quote messages properly so that the
replies are prefixed with > ??

TiA,

Pete

The biggest downside I've found (and not located a fix for it as yet) is
that when looking at other newsgroups graphics only show as a thumbnail and
have to be double clicked on to open - this is really annoying when looking
at lots of them. Has anyone found away around this please?

Thunderbird
Tunderbird again,
its by far the best mail client i have used..

gives me access to all my various email addresses in one combined inbox
(can view them sepertaly too if i click on another folder)

supports multiple aliases per account (eg i own my own domain, so any
email address *@mydomain.invalid will get to me,
thunderbird lets me send with several differntf from fields (eg i use
bagheera for sending scouty stuff if i dont use my group email address) )

newsreader part works great (i use news.eternal-september.org) threads
as standard (you can select to view emails this way too)

also with the lightning addon you have a great calandar, (can sync with
google calander if you have the google calandar provider addon too)

add lightning from the addons manager in Thunderbird.... (suggest adding
google calendar provider at the same time.) and you should get a
calender tab available
