Just thought I'd bang on the door to see if anyone's at home?
What's happened to the mince pies and mulled ale? And who turned off all
the lights?

I suspect it is now lurked more than posted to...

Shame we can't pursuade Escouts to put a r/o archive of all the contents in
a forum, then it would be nicely searchable archive for posterity...

I think it must be ewan's turn for minced pies this year...

Chris and all, I hope this forum improves and that you all have a lovely
Christmas although the snow is no longer my scene. I'm off to a barbie
today in the sun by the upper Yarra river.

Merry Christmas to everybody, and I agree about the forum, I can only get to
it in the evenings now since it was blocked at work, same as e-scouts,
apparently they are "social networking - blocked for your own protection and
security", whcih is bloody handy.

I also can't access youtube, (which has loads of good stuff for school),
google images search, again good for school, facebook, not really needed at
school, wikipedia, sourceforge, anything regarded as "opensource"
(apparantly by definition all must be bad) but this isn't just my school its
the whole council!

A very Merry Christmas to one and all! May the New Year bring you all you
need to deliver the very best Scouting and Guiding for your young people.

As to the social networking sites, the college which is foolhardy enough to
pay my wages has allowed them since the beginning of this academic year -
some media courses have social networking modules in them! It's a real pain
in the ***@5e and a constant source of moans and complaint from teaching
staff. The student council uses them to keep in contact with the youngsters
etc. "It's all down to student management".

Thanks Brian for that bit of information - I'm sure we're all happy to
think of you sunning yourself, chucking another prawn on the barbie and
keeping the tinnies cool ;^)
Mind you here in Cambridgeshire we've also got sun (well we did have
last time I looked out), and we've also got a few inches (that's old
currency to you) of snow. Christmas Day we were round at my Daughters
house, and her husband barbied the Turkey and the ham whilst standing
out in the snow. It tasted great (the grub that is - not the snow).
Have a great time - I'll crack open a bottle of Aussie red to help you
celebrate.
Cheers and a Happy New Year.

There you go then. All the usual suspects slowly emerging (slowly as

Well, as I'm now a few days over the half-century, I s'ppose I
can claim to be part of that group :-)

If I may misquote B-P ... "I was fifty once".

Welcome to the invisible generation Mat ;^)
You'll know you've *really* arrived when someone at a District meeting

I suppose I shouldn't mind (since it's the normal and
ever-so-slightly-patronising thing to say to the older generation in
Scouting), but since I joined the Wolf Cubs when I was 8 and got my
first parchment Warrant at 18, I've hardly ever been not-involved.
Grrrrr!!

<tsk.. i hate it when these dinosaurs tell me what to do...

My biggest hate is when people "quote POR" at me ane either make it up or
completely mis-interpret what is meant!

People have tried looking at me as if I am too old for the job, but they
only do it once. :-)

I don't use any of the "you are only as old as the woman you feel type
comments" but I will decide when I am too old, and thats not yet :-)
