Nothing good to say and all that...

I'm here too. There's chocolate cake and lemon cake (dairy free) and
ginger cake (also dairy free, but contains whisky) for old time's sake.

hmm, at this rate it's going to go stale before it gets eaten. That's a
bad sign.

sadly i'm not here anymore. i've morphed into someone else. someone else appears elsewhere. here is too quiet for someone else. besides, i can't keep my eye on two things at the same time.

i miss all of you. best wishes and good luck. why not pop in over 'there' if you can? or is the thought of maybe reading a ding-dong argument between ewan and me on the subject of explorers too daunting for you? (and yes even we're still at it today; ten years on and still arguing about explorers! :-)

it was an education and a pleasure chatting with you all.

my very best wishes,

There, seemed a bit sterile and difficult to navigate. I doubt it's

very much!

Oh - and I can confirm that GAGS and Ewan are still discussing the
subject of the finer points of Explorer scouting "over there" (I am
just glad I am only a Cub leader), as well as giving us "young uns"
the benefit of their advice and experience!

and even though I am no longer in the business, you can't change the
habits of 30 years - I look in a couple of times a week. AND, I also
occasionally put a post or two on.

Even though I have left the business and children are now something I
step over when coming out of the opera, I still look in a few times a
week

I note that every time I do look in that several hundred people have
checked in before me. I will be posting too soon - which I am pleased
to say will totally brass off a former DC and a certain HQ official -
which is nice!

The good thing about this is that its not HQ controlled unlike the
'other' forum.

Keep it going is what I say.

Shaun, interesting comment. I wonder if you could expand on how the

I was going to post yesterday... HQ have only advised us to watch for
discussion on a couple of topics where there has been legal action
pending etc. The forums are moderated, sometimes rightly and
sometimes wrongly - having a team of moderators means that most
decisions are balanced. We're lucky enough to have the support of Wayne
who does post and offers the Q&A still. But not controlled by HQ.

Interesting too to remember that UKRS's earliest denizens included the
founders of SBUK, so it's a wonder that same accusation wasn't levelled
against them. Self-moderated feedback is what you get on UKRS ;^)
But what will finally kill UKRS (and I guess similar forums) is that
increasingly it's only us ole gits (who are probably those who actually
worked in the IT industry way back when) who know of the existence of
usenet - and how to access it. Tell one of today's 'experts' that back
in 1968 you first got involved with what is now known as the 'internet'
- and watch as the incomprehension dawns ;^)

I lurk here rarely. Personally I'm struggling with the proliferation
of places to look for information - perhaps someone ought to invent a
search engine! To see this usegroup go is a shame as the members have
provided me with huge amounts of valuable opinions in the past.
However there are only 25 replies to this post at the moment - 25
people out of the total number of Scout leaders in the UK is a rather
small percentage.
Perhaps it's time to see this go and then we can all look fondly back
at it and reminisce about the good times we had.
